UK Youth Parliament (UKYP)
Extras

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) has been operating nationally since 2001 and has over 400 Members of Youth Parliament (MYP). It aims to give 11-18 year olds a chance to use their voices in creative ways to bring about social change. You can read more about UKYP by visiting their website (link on right of this page).

UKYP elections take place annually in every part of the UK. In Cambridgeshire, nearly 8000 young people voted in the last elections.

Cambridgeshire has three MYPs

  • Joe Davies, MYP for North Cambs and Huntingdonshire
  • Lewis Punter, MYP for East Cambs and Fenland
  • Sam Wood, MYP for South Cambs and City

There are also three Deputy MYPs, who with the MYPs, make up the Cabinet.

UKYP is currently concentrating on three national campaigns:

  • transport concession cards
  • abolishing university fees
  • the environment
