Rights of Way - The Way Ahead

Cambridgeshire County Council have set out their vision for the public path network in the county for the next 10 years with the production of a Rights of Way Improvement Plan.

The Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) is a statutory responsibility imposed by the Countryside and Rights of Way (CROW) Act 2000.

The ROWIP has been produced after two major consultations. The first resulted in a draft plan and the second helped shape the final plan. The final ROWIP can be viewed from this page.

Feedback from the second consultation Feb - May 2005 is also available.

The final ROWIP document will be launched in 2006 and also included as part of the Council's Local Transport Plan (LTP)2006 - 2011

The views received from the statutory consultation have aided in the prioritising of the actions needed for the improvement and management of access to the countryside via the rights of way network.

History of Cambridgeshire's Improvement Plan

Work on the Cambridgeshire ROWIP started in March 2003 and the completion deadline is November 2007. However, to fit in with the LTP schedule, Cambridgeshire planned an earlier completion of July 2005.

ROWIP documents are available on this page as they become available. Analysis of the following is also available:

  • Countryside access provision conducted by officers
  • Consultation responses
  • Focus group responses

The Cambridgeshire Local Access Forum has been involved in the preparation of the ROWIP since its inception and the plan has been produced based on guidance issued by DEFRA.

Any questions please contact the Senior Access Officer, responsible for the Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
