Diversion Applications
You can apply for a diversion order using information and forms on this website.
How to apply
To apply for a Diversion Order, an application form, including details of the costs you will be required to pay, can be downloaded from the link on the right of this page.
You will also find it useful to look at the Countryside Agency’s publication ‘A guide to the definitive maps and changes to public rights of way’, which you will find on the right.
Advice
Don’t forget to include a map with your application showing your proposal! It may be a good idea to discuss your proposal with the Definitive Map Unit first. They will advise you whether your proposal seems reasonable, and which piece of legislation is the most appropriate.
Consultations
Applicants wishing to apply for a diversion order are required to conduct their own preliminary consultations with the statutory consultees. This should speed up the time it takes to process an application, as any problems with the proposal will have been identified at an early stage.
A list of the statutory consultees can be found on the right of this page.We would also recommend that the local parish council is consulted.
The consultation should include: -
a) a covering letter explaining why the diversion is required and under which section of the legislation the applicant’s proposal falls
b) a map clearly showing the current and proposed routes for the path at a scale of not less than
1:10 000
c) an undertaking that the applicant will put the new route into good order at their own expense prior to the confirmation of any diversion order, to the satisfaction of the Countryside Services Team.
