First stage - Inspection
First steps upon receipt of an application
Discussions and site visit
Upon receipt of an application for a diversion order (complete with copies of preliminary consultation responses), one of the County Council’s Definitive Map Officers will discuss the proposal with the relevant Rights of Way Officer for that Parish.
If the proposal appears to be reasonable on paper, they will conduct a site visit to look at the proposal on the ground.
Assessment
An assessment will be made of any works that would be required to bring the new route(s) into a satisfactory condition for both public use, and of the implications on future maintenance. Please look at the section on Works for further information.
Once the officer is satisfied that the proposal is sound and would meet the requirements of the legislation the proposal will be sent out to statutory consultees for comment.
Applications that would clearly fail to meet the requirements of the legislation will be rejected. However, we always aim to work with applicants to reach a proposal that is acceptable to both the landowner and the public.
