Cambridgeshire and Peterborough councils were the first in England to produce Biodiversity Checklists giving guidelines for planners, developers and householders on how to provide for the needs of wildlife and their habitats.
Cambridgeshire County Council produced and funded the report, endorsed by Government Office for East of England, on behalf of the Biodiversity Partnership for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in 2001.

In 2007 Essex Biodiversity Project have produced a very useful interactive guide for planners to integrate biodiversity into developments (Links).
