Providing and delivering greenspace

People walking in the countryside

The County Council undertakes a variety of work related to greenspace in Cambridgeshire. Greenspace is fundamental for a good quality of life whether it is in urban or rural areas. It can provide space for recreational activities, improve people's wellbeing and protect and enhance biodiversity and landscapes.

We currently manage four Local Nature Reserves and provide advice and support to community groups who manage their own greenspaces. You can read more about this on the other pages under Nature conservation and wildlife.

Follow the navigation on the left-hand side for further information on:

Cambridgeshire Green Vision (Green Infrastructure Strategy): Working with partners to deliver an exciting 20-year plan to improve quality of life for residents of the county both now and in the future. It’s about enhancing the environment for both people and wildlife.

Growth Area Greenspace Projects: Using grant aid from Communities and Local Government to help partners deliver new publicly accessible greenspaces ahead of housing growth.

The County Council, in partnership with the District Councils, developed a standard to help new developments provide adequate open space, known as "Strategic Open Space". This work is currently being tested through the Local Delivery Framework (LDF) process and may be amended. Information on the standard will be available here once we know the outcome of the LDF process.
