Creating a countryside for all to enjoy

These web pages are hosted by Cambridgeshire County Council, one of the partners involved in delivering the vision.

The Cambridgeshire Green Vision is an exciting 20-year plan to improve quality of life for residents of the county both now and in the future. It’s about enhancing the environment for both people and wildlife.

More areas of the countryside will be available to walk, ride and cycle in. There will be an increase in the number of country parks, and visitor attractions will be improved and expanded. Wildlife will benefit from increases in areas of wetland, fen, woodland and grassland and improvements to rivers and farmland.

The aim of the Green Vision is to highlight the importance of the natural environment to Cambridgeshire. This will be achieved through creating a widespread network of green corridors and sites that:

  • enhance the diversity of landscape character
  • connect and enrich biodiversity habitats and
  • extend access and recreation opportunities

Over the next 20 years the population of the county is expected to grow by 130,000 people. In addition to homes and jobs, these people will also need places to relax and enjoy the outdoors, and places where they can feel part of a local community.

Delivery of the Cambridgeshire Green Vision will take a large step forward this year thanks to securing nearly £2 million for greenspace projects in 2008/09.
