As well as being the name chosen for the first new town in England since the 1960s, Northstowe has for a thousand years also grouped country parishes to the north of Cambridge into a Saxon ‘Hundred’.
The quality of life for people living in and around Northstowe will benefit from attractive access to, and information about that countryside. Effective access networks should also reduce trespass and make land management easier for farmers making their living from the surrounding fields.
These web pages will complement paper maps and leaflets, together with signage and interpretation on the ground, to help people better understand the rich heritage and natural history around Northstowe.
While the new town completes the final planning stages, it may seem a little strange to describe walks around a town which does not yet exist. However, there should already be emerging benefits to the people of the surrounding villages, and we hope that these pages may help to set the Northstowe development in the wider context of the local landscape and history.
