While we want you to enjoy our countryside and paths, please do take care. While Cambridgeshire has no high mountains, wild moors or high sea cliffs, our rural paths may have uneven ground, exposed tree roots, steep drops or thorny scrub. The weather can turn quickly even in the fen. Grazing animals may be encountered in fields or on floodbanks. Such hazards are not generally signed. We suggest that you wear appropriate footwear, dress for the weather and carry a phone or let someone know where you will be. Flooding can sometimes affect riverside paths. Do not venture into the water - it can be deeper than you might think.
Please remember that farmland is the farmer's workplace and the source of your food. If you follow the Countryside Code wherever you go, you'll enjoy your outing and help to protect the countryside now and for future generations.
Be safe - plan ahead and follow any signs
Use up to date maps and the latest information, know your signs, follow advice and be prepared for the outdoor weather.
Leave gates and property as you find them
Respect the countryside - your actions can affect people's working lives and the safety and welfare of animals and yourself. Protect plants and animals, and take your litter home. Don't harm animals, birds, plants or trees.
Keep dogs under close control
It's every owner's duty to make sure their dog is not a danger or nuisance to farm animals, wildlife or other people.
Consider other people
Show consideration and respect for other people and make the countryside a pleasant place for everyone.
Further detailed information on the code is available from Natural England - see link.
