What does the Local Access Forum do?

The Local Access Forum is the County Council's Statutory Advisory body on countryside access issues.

The Forum was set up in 2002 under the Countryside and Rights Of Way Act 2000 to:-

  • Comment on the Natural England maps of open access land for Cambridgeshire
  • Comment on the Rights of Way improvement plan produced by the County Advise the County Council and its partners on recreation and access strategies
  • Advise the County Council and its partners on bylaws to prevent damage to open land

The Forum held its first meeting on 7th September 2003 and consists of 12 volunteers selected for their knowledge and expertise in countryside access issues, rather than as representatives of specific interests.

The County Council provides secretarial support and reimbursement of costs for forum members.

If you are interested in the countryside, rights of way and access issues there are many groups and organisations that undertake this kind of work.

Please click the links for River Care, BTCV, Cambridge Past Present and Future, and Ramblers Association to find out more about their work and how you might get involved.

The LAF Annual Report 2010-2011  is now published. Please see the link in our publication list below.

LAF support for Wicken Vision

Cambridgeshire Local Access Forum (LAF) is delighted to support the Wicken Vision Project.

The Wicken Fen Vision will provide a marvellous resource for the County, not only creating fenland habitat but also a valuable 'green lung', with  opportunities for a substantial improvement for public access.
