From time to time it may be necessary to temporarily legally close paths. This may be due to a safety issue (e.g. a collapsing wall), an event (e.g. a village fete) or works being undertaken (e.g. resurfacing). Sometimes a path may be closed to some users (e.g. 4x4s) but open to others (e.g. pedestrians) to allow grass to re-establish after works.
Temporary closures on roads are mapped on the national ELGIN system, but this is not generally possible for Rights of Way for technical reasons at present. A link to temporary closure Orders on our Streetworks pages can be found in the right hand column. For legal reasons, planned Orders are typically for longer periods (generally 6 months) than the actual closure period. It may be necessary to impose shorter emergency closures (generally 21 days). We will try to list current closures on this page.
Busway closures
The Guided Busway bridleway is subject to a separate management regime for closures. Short term closures may be necessary for busway operations, while flooding may cause closures in the winter. At no time should users trespass on the busway itself.
