The Cambridgeshire Environment Report 2005 has a section on climate change, which includes information on home energy use and efficiency, renewable energy production and transport and travel in Cambridgeshire.
The energy chapter in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough's State of the Environment Report 1998 describes the generation, supply and consumption of energy in Cambridgeshire. It also considers energy efficiency, the environmental effects of energy production (particularly carbon dioxide emissions) and renewable energy sources in the county (both existing and potential). Vehicular uses of energy are also discussed in this chapter.
County Council Action
The Council's "Environment Strategy and Action Plan" (see right) sets out the Council's environmental policy and objectives. Targets include reducing energy consumption in line with national Best Value targets and reducing car business mileage per employee by 2% a year. In 2005-6 there are several actions designed to increase our energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impacts of transport.
District Councils
District councils have a responsibility to promote energy conservation in both rented and owner-occupied houses. A number of different schemes are running in Cambridgeshire to improve energy efficiency. Contact your district council for advice on ways to save energy and information on sources of funding for energy efficiency improvements.
