Cambridgeshire County Council, working in partnership with Cambridgeshire Horizons, other local authorities, and statutory and non-statutory conservation organisations, secured government funds to help create new areas of greenspace in Cambridgeshire.
The funding was made available by Communities and Local Government (CLG) to help Cambridgeshire meet the needs of its growing population. A key aim of any growth is to make new communities 'sustainable'. This means providing any new homes with a good quality environment, public services and jobs. The funding has provided new Green Infrastructure in Cambridgeshire to help achieve this aim.
To date, there have been three rounds of funding, allocated to the following schemes:
- Coton Countryside Reserve
- Wicken Fen
- Fen Drayton Lakes
- Forest of South Cambridgeshire
- Great Fen Project
- Wicken Fen
