The Planning System
Extras
Housing development

Planning allows us to manage changes to our environment.

Through planning we can identify what changes we need to make in terms of:

  • new homes,
  • transport,
  • places to work and
  • community facilities etc

and where these should be located.

"Planning seeks to ensure that we achieve a balance between our need for new development while conserving what we value about our environment such as green spaces, wildlife, historic buildings and places etc." RTPI Website

Planning must provide for sustainable development that will retain a safe and attractive environment for future generations.

Planning can make positive changes to our environment and communities. It can create sustainable communities and enhance existing cities, towns and villages that we want to live and work in, visit and enjoy.

The planning system is an important part of our democracy. It can help to try solve the different views between groups over development and provide opportunities for people to have their say about the future of their communities.
