What type of planning applications does the County Council deal with?

The County Council is responsible for giving planning permission for certain types of planning application. The process is known as 'development control'. The types of applications that we give permission for are

  • mineral extraction, such as sand, gravel, chalk and the machinery and plant that is associated with these developments
  • facilities for waste disposal, such as landfill or landraising facilities, recycling, incineration or composting facilities
  • services that the County Council provides, such as schools, libraries and roads

The city and district councils in Cambridgeshire deal with all other types of planning applications.

The city and district councils consult us, along with other bodies and organisations on the planning applications they deal with.  This is our opportunity to provide our opinion on highways and transport issues and whether the development fits in with our own planning policies.
