As the Mineral Planning Authority (MPA) the County Council receives applications for:

• extraction of sand and gravel, together with associated processing plant and machinery
• extraction of clay together with associated processing plant, which could include brick manufacture
• extraction of chalk together with any associated processing plant, such as cement works
• importation of aggregates by rail to railheads together with associated added value industrial activities such as concrete, concrete products manufacturing plants and coated stone/asphalt plants
