The first consultation stage completed on 30th June 2008.
The Government’s Eco-towns consultation “Eco-towns: Living a greener future” (April 2008) promotes Eco-towns as a means of building more housing and advancing the principles of sustainability through zero-carbon developments.
Hanley Grange near Hinxton in Cambridgeshire was identified by the Government as of one the shortlisted locations for an Eco-town. A final list of up to 10 locations will be announced later this year.
On the 28th August, however, Tesco - the main landowner - announced that it was withdrawing this site from the Eco-towns process, and will now consider whether to pursue a development through the review of the Regional Spatial Strategy.
