Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Minerals and Waste Local Development Framework

We are facing a number of challenges in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough as a result of future housing growth and the impacts of climate change. Such growth needs mineral to be supplied, and waste management facilities to manage waste, for existing and new communities.

The timetable for preparing the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Development Framework is set out in the Minerals and Waste Development Scheme. The Framework consists of a number of different elements, these are summarised below. Please follow the links on the left hand side of the page for further details:

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Minerals and Waste Plan (Development Plan Documents)

  • Minerals and Waste Core Strategy: this sets out the Councils’ strategic vision and objectives for future development and management of minerals and waste within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, including strategic site allocations over the Plan period to 2026. The document also contains a suite of development control policies to guide minerals and waste development.
  • Minerals and Waste Site Specific Proposals Plan: this sets out the Councils’ allocations for site specific proposals for future development and management of minerals and waste within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It identifies site specific land allocations for future minerals and waste management development and other supporting site specific policies.
  • Proposals Maps: Map A: shows minerals and transport proposals; Map B: shows waste management proposals; Map C: shows Mineral Safeguarding Areas.

Supporting Supplementary Planning Documents:

  • The Block Fen / Langwood Fen Master Plan: will guide long term mineral and waste management development in this area near Mepal, Cambridgeshire. It will also secure restoration which will deliver sustainable flood management and new habitat to complement the adjacent internationally important Ouse Washes.
  • The Location and Design of Waste Management Facilities: this guide sets out advise which will improve the design and sustainability of new waste management facilities which are required to meet challenging targets for greater levels of waste recycling and recovery.
  • The RECAP Waste Management Design Guide: provides advice on the design and provision of waste management infrastructure in residential and commercial developments, including the basis on which developer contributions will be sought for waste management infrastructure.
