Housing Development Targets
Cambridge is an international focus for high-tech and knowledge-based industries, within easy reach of London, Stansted and Felixstowe, and one of the principal focuses for growth in the UK.
The Structure Plan Strategy for the Cambridge Sub-region sets out a vision for sustainable development including:
- the provision of 47,500 new homes by 2016
- £2.2 billion of infrastructure needed to support its development.
Cambridgeshire Horizons leads the partnership needed to radically increase the scale and pace of housing delivery in three phases and bring forward necessary infrastructure delivery.
In order to assess whether the targets are being met it is essential to monitor current delivery; this is done by the Research and Monitoring Team (R&M) at Cambridgeshire County Council. A quarterly survey of the large housing developments (sites providing 100+ dwellings) within the Cambridge Sub Region is carried out by R&M and the results from these surveys are published in a series of tables and maps which can be downloaded from the publications section.
The results for 1 July 1999 - 30 June 2008 have now been published (July 2008). This update shows changes in status on sites providing 100+ dwellings, but also provides number of completions and commitments for smaller sites within Cambridge Sub Region. Also, these tables and maps show the formal position of the strategic sites as set out in the relevant Local Plan or Local Development Framework at the date of the update.
