East of England
Cambridgeshire is in the East of England planning region. This covers the six counties of:
Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and four unitary Authorities: Peterborough, Luton, Thurrock, and Southend-on-Sea.
EERA
The East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) is the governing body that prepared new regional guidance, now called The East of England Plan, or Regional Spatial Strategy, submitted for consultation early in 2005 and the subject of a public inquiry from November 2005 to March 2006. Adoption of the new regional plan is the responsibility of GO-East (see below). It will then supersede previous regional planning guidance and Structure Plans formerly produced in each of the six counties.
EEDA
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) plays a central role in helping to promote long-term sustainable economic growth in the East of England. The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) was produced in parallel with the draft regional spatial strategy.
GO-East
Overall government for the East of England is administered by the Government Office for the East of England (GO- East). Government Offices are now part of the Department for Communities and Local Government, which also covers regional and urban policy, local government, planning, housing and regeneration amongst its functions.
