Sustainability Appraisal of the Structure Plan
The Structure Plan was independently appraised to test the sustainability of its policies
Government guidance contained within Planning Policy Guidance 12 states that local authorities should assess the sustainability implications of their development plan policies. PPG12 strongly encourages local authorities to ensure that their sustainability appraisals cover the four underlying themes set out in 'A Better Quality of Life' (DETR 1999), which are:-
- social progress which recognises the needs of everyone;
- effective protection of the environment;
- prudent use of natural resources;
- maintenance of high and stable levels of economic growth and employment
Sustainability appraisals were undertaken at each of the main stages of the review. Included here are the most recent reports, including appraisals of:-
- the Deposit Draft Structure Plan incorporating Health Impact Review;
- the adopted Plan.
