Land Use and Transport Testing
Computer testing of the Cambridge sub-region development options used in the review of the Structure Plan.
A key component of the Review of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Structure Plan was an assessment of the ways to accommodate future growth within the Cambridge Sub-region as required by the Regional Planning Guidance for East Anglia (RPG6). A number of alternative development scenarios were put forward in the Cambridge Sub-region Study Report.
In 2001, to assist the assessment of these development scenarios, the County Council, in conjunction with consultants WS Atkins, carried out a series of computer model tests of the transport and land-use implications of each scenario. The findings from the transport testing helped to inform the County Council's decisions on development strategy, including Green Belt review and location of a new settlement, which were subsequently incorporated in the Structure Plan when it was adopted in October 2003.
