A spatial plan prepared by the former regional planning body - the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) - was approved by the previous government in 2008. EERA reviewed that plan and subsequently held a public consultation in September - November 2009. As the Strategic Planning Authority for Cambridgeshire, we provided advice to EERA of our ideas for this area.
We have a clear strategy for development over the next 10 years or so, but we provided our suggestions to EERA for the period between 2021 and 2031. Although 2031 sounds a long way off, the decisions we make now affect the character of our County from now on into the future.
Recent Changes
EERA completed its responsibility for the review of the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) by submitting it to Government and was then replaced by the East of England Local Government Association (EELGA) in March 2010.
The Government's intention is to abolish RSS's and return powers on planning and housing to local councils. These will be updated when further details have been made available.
Other planning functions
EERA's other planning functions also include waste, transport and other related issues, such as Gypsies and Travellers.
