In 2010/11 Cambridgeshire's residents produced 288,000 tonnes of waste. Here you'll find information on how you can reduce, reuse and recycle as much of your waste as possible.
Recycling points
Recycling points, also known as bring banks or mini-recycling centres, collect a range of small items such as bottles or cans for reuse or recycling. They are always open. They are run by your district council and there are hundreds around the county. Find the ones nearest to you and what they accept.
Bulky waste
Many charity shops and community groups take bulky items (like furniture and white goods) suitable for resale, and some will also refurbish them. Some of these organisations will collect items from your home. Please contact them directly to find out more. You can also sell or donate them online.
You can take your bulky items to a recycling centre for free (even if they are broken or no longer of use). District councils will take away your bulky waste for a charge. Please see your district council's website for details.
Private waste management contractors
Waste that cannot be collected by your district council or taken to your local recycling centre must still be disposed of responsibly (see your duty of care on the right). Private contractors are able to deal with many different wastes and ensure that they are disposed of safely.
