Shopping for the Environment
Want to make a difference?
Choosing where you shop and what you buy is one of the easiest yet most important ways we can all make a difference. Sustainable choices mean:
- reducing packaging and waste,
- buying local and in season food where possible to reduce food miles
- and choosing organic food or food from an an accredited farming scheme.
Green Shopping for the Home
For some practical tips on how to 'shop green' go to the ShopSmart pages by the Waste and Recycling Team at the County Council.
Cambridge University Students Union (CUSU) produce a green shopping guide - the online version can be accessed by everyone and contains some useful ideas and a good background to green and ethical shopping.
Farmers Markets
A number of markets around the county give farmers the opportunity to sell produce directly to the public, and give you the opportunity to support local producers.
