SmartLIFE

Originally the SmartLIFE project was an innovative pilot project led by Cambridgeshire County Council, with partners in the cities of Hamburg, Germany and Malmö, Sweden. Each partner city faces similar growth-related challenges to Cambridgeshire.

SmartLIFE was funded by the EU Interreg IIIB North Sea Programme; the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, UK; and other associate partners.  The project also received key support in the UK from the East of England Development Agency and the Government Office for the East of England.

The project’s main aims addressed three challenges of housing delivery in growth areas:

  • Affordability
  • Sustainability/energy efficiency
  • Skills/capacity shortages in the construction industry

Since the project was completed the UK centre has gone on to provide essential training in innovative methods of construction with partner Cambridge Regional College.  The centre also provides state of the art conferencing facilities.  Please see website links on the right for further information.
