The future

In 2007/8 Cambridgeshire residents produced  around 301,000 tonnes of household waste. An impressive 50.5% of this was recycled and composted. The rest – around 149,000 tonnes – was landfilled.

Cambridgeshire faces future waste challenges:

  • a growing population
  • households producing more waste
  • tough Government targets to reduce the amount of waste we landfill
  • increases in the cost of waste management

As a result of these, we need to move away from our historical reliance on landfill.
