PFI - the future of Cambridgeshire's waste

 The future

In 2006/7 Cambridgeshire residents produced  around 306,000 tonnes of household waste. An impressive 48.5% of this was recycled and composted. The rest – around 158,000 tonnes – was landfilled.

Cambridgeshire faces future waste challenges:

· a growing population
· households producing more waste
· tough Government targets to reduce the amount of waste we landfill
· increases in the cost of waste management

As a result of these, we need to move away from our historical reliance on landfill.
