Materials for recycling

What can be recycled?

All 10 Household Waste Recycling Centres in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough take the following materials:

  • Paper: newspapers, magazines, brochures and junk mail
  • Glass: bottles and jars (rinsed, lids removed)
  • Textiles: clothing, shoes, towels, blankets (clean and dry)
  • Cans: steel and aluminium food and drinks cans (rinsed and squashed)
  • Garden: grass cuttings, small branches, leaves, weeds etc
  • Scrap Metal: washing machines, cookers, sink units etc. -see Bulky waste

PLUS

Cardboard, fridges and freezers, car batteries, engine oil and furniture.

New materials can now be accepted at Cambridgeshire sites. This includes domestic batteries, mobile phones and ink cartridges!

  • Local recycling banks at supermarkets, in villages etc will vary throughout the county, but most collect paper, glass, cans and textiles as above.
  • Doorstep collections of recyclables are organised by the 5 district councils and Peterborough City Council. Most will collect paper, cans and glass.
