Question:
Why should I compost?
Answer:
Have a Guess at how much it costs to dispose of your rubbish...........
In 2000 Cambridgeshire County Council spent over £6 million disposing of your household waste in landfill sites. Many of these 'holes in the ground' are filling up fast and finding space for new sites in Cambridgeshire is becoming harder.
So what can WE do about it?...Get Composting!
It may come as a surprise that about a quarter of our household waste can actually be composted - either at home or locally.
By separating and then composting our kitchen scraps and garden waste, we immediately reduce the amount of household waste. Composting is simple, cheap and can be carried out in a number of ways:
- In a composting container or heap in your own garden
- By putting it in one of the green waste containers at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre's
- Your district Council may already have a kerbside collection service for separately collecting your organic waste.
For more specific information about composting and recycling you can contact Cambridgeshire County Council Waste Management Team, or your local District Council.
