Planning permission has been given for a new recycling centre to serve St Neots. Building work is expected to begin in December 2008, with the centre built by the end of 2009.
An existing building on the Cromwell Road Industrial Estate in St Neots will be converted into a modern, indoor, fully accessible facility.
This recycling centre will replace the existing Huntingdon Street Recycling Centre which will continue to operate until the new facility opens.
The location and size of the site will allow for good traffic management reducing the risk of local traffic flow problems.
Other benefits will include:
- Extended opening times to meet customer needs
- Split-level access which means any waste can be disposed of without climbing steps
- Energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy wherever possible
- Landscaping to provide screening and increase biodiversity
- Possible education centre for the benefit of the local community/schools
