Aerosols
Extras

Aerosols are high-pressure spray cans. They usually contain a liquefied gas which works to propel the product through the valve. Products such as deodorants, air fresheners and cleaning sprays often come in aerosol cans.

What should I do with them?

1. Recycling Centres

You can now recycle empty aerosol cans in the usual recycling banks located at all of the Cambridgeshire Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

At Bluntisham, March, Whittlesey and Wisbech HWRCs, please put your aerosols into the regular food and drinks cans skip. At all other sites please put them into the scrap metal skip.

If you are unsure, please ask the site operator.

2. District Councils

Mini recycling centres:

Aerosols can be recycled in the regular can banks at supermarkets and other mini recycling centres in:

Cambridge City
East Cambridgeshire
Fenland
South Cambridgeshire
Unfortunately can banks in Huntingdonshire cannot currently accept aerosols.

3. Kerbside recycling:

Aerosol cans can also be recycled through the kerbside recycling scheme (collection boxes) in the following areas:

Cambridge City
East Cambridgeshire
South Cambridgeshire
Unfortunately Huntingdonshire and Fenland cannot currently accept aerosol cans in the kerbside recycling boxes they provide.

Notes

Each mini recycling bank that can accept aerosol cans should now carry a BAMA (British Aerosol Manufacturers Association) sticker advertising the fact. Plans are now underway to extend aerosol recycling to the rest of Cambridgeshire.

For safety reasons, please avoid crushing or piercing aerosol cans, and only recycle them once they are empty.
