The structure of our site has been especially developed to make navigation as simple as possible. This page describes the framework the site is built into.
Information on the Cambridgeshire County Council website is presented in a tree structure, with the home page as the trunk.
Main categories visible on the home page are each linked to a few sub categories, which in turn are linked to more sub categories, and so on, fanning out like the branches of a tree.
The information becomes more specific at each level, until the categories can be broken down no further, and a leaf is reached. The leaves of the tree are individual web pages, containing all the information relevant to the path navigated.
The category structure has been designed to make navigation through the site as simple as possible, and finding specific pages, and information, quick and easy. To do this the main categories appear on the front page, with the most frequently visited subcategories displaying underneath them, this allows fast, direct access to the most requested categories and pages.
