Accessibility and usability

Cambridgeshire County Council is committed to ensuring that our website is as accessible to all users as possible, regardless of disabilities. We aim to achieve this by adhering to the widely accepted standards and guidelines for accessibility such as:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) versions 1.0 and 2.0 as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
  • The “A” and “AA” standards for content accessibility.
  • Principles outlined by the Plain English Campaign for writing simple, effective and accessible content.
  • W3C's XHTML and CSS standards.

Ultimately, we wish to ensure that this site can be used easily and effectively by everyone, regardless of ability, education, language or technology.

Shaw Trust accessibility award

Shaw Trust is an independent body that assesses websites for their accessibility. The County Council was awarded a Web Accessibility Certificate.

The Council have worked with the Shaw Trust to evaluate the site and ensure that all web content is, and will continue to be, provided to the “AA” standard for accessibility.

However, we appreciate that some areas of the website may not as yet comply with these standards. This is particularly true of services provided by third-parties, including:

  • the libraries portal
  • online admissions
  • online payment verification
  • interactive maps

We are committed to addressing these issues with the relevant providers over the coming months, to ensure these also aim to comply with the wider organisational standards.

Please see the Cambridgeshire County Council’s Web Accessibility Policy for further information.

We are continually working to improve the accessibility and usability of the content on our website, but if you are experiencing any difficulties accessing a particular page or service, or downloading files , please contact the Web Strategy Team for assistance by using the contact details to the right of the page.
