Your first teaching post in Cambridgeshire?

Applying to the Cambridgeshire Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT) Database

What is the NQT Database?
The NQT Database is a register of Newly Qualified Teachers interested in finding work in Cambridgeshire schools.  Last year, Cambridgeshire moved from a paper-based database to an electronic version.  We hope this has made the system more attractive and user-friendly for both NQTs and schools.

The database is managed for us by Education Personnel Management Ltd, who are the personnel providers for almost all Cambridgeshire schools.

How do I register with the Database?
To register, go to the EPM website www.epm.co.uk, and follow the links allowing you to place your CV, selecting Cambridgeshire when you come to the list of local authorities. You should aim to provide sufficient information in your CV to enable a headteacher to decide whether to call you for interview. This could include specialist subject areas, hobbies and interests, and preferences in terms of area or type of school (e.g. Church schools).

What happens next?
If a headteacher has seen your CV on the database and is interested in having you apply for a post, they will get in touch with you directly and invite you to submit an application; most schools use a standard application form which you would have to complete for each post you apply for.

When should I register with the Database?
Headteachers may be in a position to start thinking about how many posts they may have for the coming year from around February, so that is probably the earliest you might think about posting your CV, to ensure that it is available throughout the recruitment period. Unlike some other authorities, Cambridgeshire does not have a deadline when the database closes, so if you are still looking for a post after the resignation deadline of May 31 for teachers currently in post, it is well worth making sure that your CV is on the database during June and July.

How long will my CV remain on the EPM site? Your CV will remain live on the EPM website for eight weeks; if at the end of that time you have not heard from schools, you should refresh it.

Is there anything else I should do?
It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye on the EPM website for school vacancies which are advertised there; you do not have to wait until you are contacted through the database by schools, but can apply directly if a post is advertised which attracts you.
