Schools Based Activities

Cambridgeshire Archaeology can deliver talks and activity sessions tailor-made for individual class needs to include a range of themes such as literacy or clothing and offer the opportunity to handle real artefacts along with replicas.

These activities can supplement National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and 2 teaching programmes and can complement a broad range of disciplines such as Art & Design, History, Literacy, Maths and Science. The artefacts in particular can be used to explore weights and measures, material types and textures and also help to initiate pupils in basing a story around an object and/or a particular period.

The resources used to support these activities can be hired by teachers to deliver sessions to pupils without the assistance of an archaeologist. The hire fee for each activity (on a per week basis) is listed in the descriptions of each activity on the Activities page.

If you would like these activities to be delivered by an archaeologist (a member of Oxford Archaeology East staff), there is an extra charge, prices for which can range from £150 - £250 per half day or £350 - £500 for a full day depending on the number of staff involved and the activities being undertaken but please contact the Outreach and Learning Officer to discuss your requirements. Sessions can also be organised with historical re-enactors.

Some of the resources for these activities have been developed in conjunction with Huntingdonshire District Council and as such, if you are based in Huntingdonshire you will receive a discount of £5 when borrowing activity sets 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8.

Please contact the Outreach & Learning Officer to arrange visits and bookings for all these activities.
