About our equipment
The FSB Scanning Bureau uses very high quality equipment to achieve its results.
Our main camera is a large format 4x5 Cambo Ultima with Better Light Super 6K digital scan back. The Cambo is a Victorian-style bellows camera specially designed for use with digital backs: the bellows give far greater control over perspective and plane of focus than is possible with a normal digital camera. The Better Light scan back can create flawless digital images with uninterpolated pixel data up to 6000 x 8000 pixels (48 megapixels) or interpolated pixel data up to 9000 x 12000 pixels (108 megapixels). We use the Cambo plus Better Light combination to create images of large or fragile items, such as rolled parchment maps and archaeological artefacts.
Our flatbed scanner is a Fujifilm FineScan 2750, which has a platten of size A3 plus 25mm all round (350mm x 470mm), and the platten area is flush with its surround. This enables us to originate images from the widest possible range of items, including paper documents, glass slides and photographic negatives.
We also have a handheld digital SLR camera, a Nikon D100. We take this on outdoor location shoots. The Nikon is a 6.1 megapixel camera.
