FSB Projects

FSB's digitisation skills have contributed to the success of many projects, both large and small, varying from scanning just a few documents for online exhibitions, to capturing tens of thousands of images as part of large scale digital preservation programmes.

The Whitney Collection of Photographs

The Huntingdon firm of Maddison and Hinde too many photographs of people and places in Huntingdonshire during the late 19th and early 20th centuies. Their entire surviving stock of negatives was acquired by Ernest Whitney and deposited at Huntingdonshire Archives. We have scanned the first series in the collection, comprising 342 glass plate negatives of local views, groups, buildings and people, taken during the years 1867-1911. Further series of negatives will be scanned as the year progresses.

Bexley Local Studies Collection

We have scanned a large collection of historic postcards for Bexleys Archives and Local Studies, in London.

The Palmer Clarke / Ramsey and Muspratt Collection

The photographic studio of J. Palmer Clarke, situated in Post Office Terrace, Cambridge, was in business from the 1890s to the 1930s. It was then taken over by Lettice Ramsey and Helen Muspratt, who continued in business until the 1970s, during which time they built up a national and international reputation as being the Cambridge photographers. More than quarter of a million negatives taken by these companies, many on fragile glass plates, are now held at the Cambridgeshire Collection in Cambridge. FenPast is scanning these negatives.

US Airmen in Cambridgeshire

During the Second World War many members of the US forces were photographed in Cambridge, so that they could send prints back to their families back home, showing them happy and well. The surviving negatives are now held at the Cambridgeshire Collection in Cambridge. FenPast has scanned all 589 of these negatives.

The Papworth Archives Project

The Papworth Archives Project aims to ensure the preservation and availability of archives relating to the history of Papworth Village Settlement and its successors, by locating, identifying, cataloguing and where necessary digitising documents. FenPast has digitally photographed 1,402 documents, publications and photographs as part of this project.

The Huntingdon Borough Project

The primary aim of the Huntingdon Borough Project is to list the original historical records of the Borough of Huntingdon to current professional archive standards. FenPast has created digital copies of some of the borough's most famous documents.

Cambridgeshire Community Archives

The FSB Scanning Bureau has provided digital image capture and digitisation advice for the 2005 Community Archives Project, which set up online village 'virtual archives' in seven communities across Cambridgeshire.
