Technical standards
The master digital images created by the FSB Scanning Bureau meet the standards for digitisation laid down in NOF-digitise Technical Standards and Guidelines Version 5 (February 2003: please follow the link in the right-hand column).
The items are photographed or scanned at original size at 300 dpi (600 dpi for bi-tonal images), unless otherwise agreed with our customers.
Colour images are created in Adobe RGB 1998 colour space.
The master images are supplied in uncompressed TIFF file format, using RGB colours. We make no alterations, enhancements, improvements or any other changes to the master images unless otherwise agreed with the customer.
We can also supply images in many other file formats, including JPG, GIF, BMP, PICT, PSD and PDF.
File sizes
The scanning or photographing of very large original items at 300 dpi may result in excessive file sizes. Original size uncompressed RGB TIFF files at 300ppi can create such file sizes as:
- A0 400 MB
- A1 200 MB
- A2 100 MB
- A3 50 MB
In some instances we will recommend the use of a different resolution.
