Many of the records in our care of have been given to us or deposited by private individuals, organisations, businesses and societies.
Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies provides for their safe storage and preservation, and enables them to be made accessible to the public in our supervised searchrooms.
If you have records relating to places or people in Cambridgeshire or Huntingdonshire which you would like to see preserved and made available to a wider audience, these guidelines explain how you can add to our collections.

Donation

Records can be given or bequeathed to CALS. Ownership is then transferred to Cambridgeshire County Council.

Gifts or bequests are the surest means of ensuring that your records are permanently preserved for study and enjoyment by future generations.
Deposit

Records can also be deposited on indefinite loan in which case the depositor retains ownership of the records.

Depositors retain the right to temporarily withdraw items for legal purposes, reference, or exhibition, for example.

Next step
Please contact us before bringing records in to our offices. We can arrange for an archivist to come and look at them in situ if necessary. Once the records are in our custody, you will be asked to complete a simple interim receipt form.
