Huntingdon and Peterborough County Council

Arms of Huntingdonshire and Peterborough County Council

The County of Huntingdon and Peterborough was formed on 1 April 1965, by the amalgamation of Huntingdonshire County Council and the Soke of Peterborough Councty Council, with the addition of Thorney Rural District from the Isle of Ely, and part of Eaton Socon from Bedfordshire. The County Council came to an end on 31 March 1974, when it was replaced by Cambridgeshire County Council.

The vast majority of original records, including the minute books, are held at Shire Hall in Cambridge, as they are often still consulted by the present County Council to help govern the county.

Some printed agendas, reports and abstracts of minutes 1965-1974 are held in the library at Huntingdonshire Archives: please ask a member of staff if you wish to consult these.
