Cambridgeshire Archives Service is committed to making our holdings as accessible as possible to the widest range of people.
As part of this commitment we have recently begun to make online displays of documents available on this website. You can access these displays by clicking on the links in the left-hand column.
- Love and Hate in Cambridgeshire Archives was originally created for the UK's Archive Awareness Month, in September 2003.
- Trafalgar 200
is a display of Nelson-related sources held at the County Record Offices in both Cambridge and Huntingdon. It has been created to commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar, which took place on 21 October 1805.
- Beginnings
was created for the UK's 2005-06 Archives Awareness Campaign. "Beginnings" showcases a variety of sources and subjects, including the origins of Oxmoor in Huntingdon, the creation of Cambridgeshire's first Village College, the transportation of convicts to Australia, and the birth of Oliver Cromwell.
- Breaking the barriers
showcases documents around the themes of equality and diversity, and was created as part of Cambridgeshire County Council's Diversity Week 2006. The exhibition launched on 21 May 2006.
- Slaves, Owners and Abolitionists
was created as part of national celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the 1807 Abolition of the Slave Trade Act which outlawed the slave trade throughout the British Empire. It showcases records illustrating various Cambridgeshire links with the slave trade and its abolition, some better known than others.
- Going for Gold has been created to commemorate the launch of the Cultural Olympiad in 2008, and showcases many sports related documents at Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Archives.
In addition to these displays, some other parts of the Archives Service website also have galleries displaying high quality images of historical documents. These pages can be found by clicking on the links in the right-hand column.
