These pages have been created to coincide with a new series of programmes by the BBC designed to bring history to life.
The first series focused on the Norman Conquest of England, beginning with the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
The next series, starting this autumn, will explore the history of the British High Street from the 1870's onward.
