Slaves, owners and abolitionists

Slaves, Owners and Abolitionists is an on-line exhibition of historical documents held by Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies, and has been created to coincide with the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act of 1807.

In investigating Cambridgeshire's connections with the slave trade and its abolition, it draws upon a variety of sources including estate, borough and parish records.

To view the five exhibits, please click on the links in the left hand column.

Each page contains a number of thumbnail images. When you click on a thumbnail, a larger version of the document will appear.

Slaves, Owners and Abolitionists
has been written by Sue Neville and Alison England of Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies. The digital images have been brought together from a variety of sources: some have been created by Sue Martin of the FSB Scanning Bureau, some have been created by Cambridgeshire Archives, and some have been supplied by Fenland Local Studies.
