Cambridge City Project

The archives of the City of Cambridge, deposited by the City Council, consist of more than 150 linear metres of records extending from the 13th to the 21st century. The generous grant from the Cambridgeshire Family History Society has enabled the employment of an archivist to catalogue the greater part of the archive, comprising the records of the Municipal Borough after 1835, as well as the records of schools in the City from the County Council archive and some earlier absorbed authorities. The catalogue will be to modern professional standards and electronic, accessible over the internet as part of the service’s CALM database.

Alongside cataloguing, the records will be cleaned and repackaged and documents in poor physical condition will be repaired by our conservator to ensure the long-term preservation of the collection for future generations.

It is a vast collection of interest to anyone studying the development of the town or learning about the people who have lived and worked in it.
