Cambridgeshire Family History Society present funding at project launch
Monday 26th October 2009 saw the launch of the Cambridge City Archives Project at Shire Hall.
Elizabeth Stazicker, Vice-President of the Cambridgeshire Family History Society presented a cheque for £45,000 from the society, to fund the recruitment of a project archivist, to County Councillor Sir Peter Brown, County Council cabinet member for Libraries, Archives and Information.
Councillor Sir Peter Brown welcomed everyone present with a speech thanking the society for its financial support and Christine May, Head of Libraries, Archives and Information, explained the origin of the project and the reasons for selecting the City Archive as a priority for cataloguing.
Guests were then invited to view a display of records from the collection and celebrate with some light refreshments. The event was very well attended with the CALS team joined by members of the CFHS committee, councillors from Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridge City Council and people with a special interest in the City Archive.
