Transcription
In addition to the financial support given to the project, CFHS are helping promote access to the collection by transcribing records of specific interest to family historians.
Current projects include:
- An indexed transcription of the Cambridge Borough Quarter Sessions Order Books, 1733-1945
- A name index for a selection of Cambridge parish rate books from 1830s-1890s.
- Names, addresses and enlistment details from the Roll of Honour index.
Listing
During the course of the project over 20 volunteers from the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society, the Cambridgeshire Family History Society and individuals with a particular interest in Cambridge have visited the archive to help item list records from the collection.
This committement of over 1500 volunteer hours has resulted in over 5000 item descriptions being made available on the public catalogue, CALM. These include Co/Co/P1-34 Cambridge Borough Coroner's inquests, 1836-1885; CB/2/CL/16 Deeds of Corporation property; CB/2/TR/1/20 Cambridge Borough treasurers' vouchers; and CB/4/7-10 Parliamentary, Legal, Property and contracts of the Cambridge Improvement Commissioners.
Volunteers needed
Assistance is still needed with listing, transcription, cleaning and repackaging so if you would be interested in volunteering, or have any questions about the project, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
