Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies: Huntingdon Borough Project

1205 Royal Charter

2005 was the eight hundredth anniversary of the granting by King John of Huntingdon's first Royal Charter.

To celebrate this event, Cambridgeshire Archives Service has been recataloguing the original records.

The primary aim of the Huntingdon Borough Project, which began at the end of 2004, is to list the original historical records of the Borough of Huntingdon to current professional archive standards. Subsidiary aims include undertaking a conservation survey of the original records, to repair documents where necessary, and to repackage the collection in new archive-quality boxes and folders; and to make digital copies of some of the most famous documents available on the web.

Funding has come so far from Huntingdon Freemen's Charity and the Huntingdonshire Local History Society.

A dedicated website for the Huntingdon Borough Project is available. Please follow the link on the right.
