Yes, unless there is good reason not to.
We do not provide photocopies from original parish registers dating from earlier than 1813, but we can occasionally supply copies from microfilm of these registers, if they have been filmed. We do not copy from documents which are still in copyright (such as modern Ordnance Survey maps). Occasionally the owners of deposited documents stipulate, as a condition of deposit, that no copies are to be supplied. We also reserve the right to refuse to copy any document which may be damaged by the copying process.
Please note:
- photocopies cannot always be supplied on demand but we do endeavour to fulfill all copy orders within ten working days
- you must complete a reprographics order form before we carry out any copying. You can find a link to the order form on the right.
Specialist reprographics
High quality scanned images of documents are available from the FSB Scanning Bureau. The Bureau can supply images as hard copy prints, as digital files on CDs or DVDs, or as email attachments. The Bureau can also digitially restore and enhance old images. Please follow the link to the Scanning Bureau in the right hand menu.
Bringing your own camera
It is sometimes possible to take your own photographs of documents. Please note however:
- you must let us know in advance of your visit if you wish to take photographs
- no flash photography is permitted
- you must purchase a photography permit for either the morning or afternoon session
- staff have the right to refuse to allow certain documents to be photographed.
