Creativity as practice

A unique approach to developing the creative practice of early years educators

This course was designed to support the development of sustainable creative practice in early years educators. The course was developed in response to feedback from teachers who attended The Hundred Languages of Children Exhibition in 2004; they said they wanted to be able to use their own creativity once artists have ‘left the building’.

A group of twenty early years educators attended a series of ‘hands on’ workshops led by practicing artists, who then mentored the educators in their own settings to support them in developing their own creative projects. The aim of the course has been to support educators and make it easier for them to carry on using their own creativity once the artists have ‘left the building’.

Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination worked in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education to develop this Certificate of Further Professional Studies Programme.

The course is a partnership between University of Cambridge Faculty of Education, ArtsEdEast (arts education officers from across the Eastern region), Cambridgeshire Early Years and Childcare Services, Norfolk County Council's Children's Services and CCI.

The course was supported by Esme Fairbairn, Arts Council England East, Cambridgeshire County Council and Norfolk County Council.
